What it is
Calligraphr turns handwriting or calligraphy into downloadable fonts. Start by choosing the character set and cell size for a template, then print and fill it in; a scan or photograph can be uploaded to create the font. An image editor provides character touch-ups, with controls for height and spacing. You can make several versions of a character and randomize them to add variation. Finished fonts are standard TTF or OTF files that continue to work after download, and the maker says users own their creations and may use them commercially without credit. The Free plan requires registration and allows one concurrent font, up to 75 characters per font and two variants per character, without ligatures. Pro costs £6 a month, billed per month for a 6 months upgrade; it allows 20 concurrent fonts, 600 characters per font and 15 variants per character, and adds ligatures, backup, prioritized processing, and server storage alongside browser storage. Free account data is kept in the browser and may be removed after inactivity.
