Buildless
What it is
Buildless is a remote build cache service that stores compiled output so supported tools can reuse it rather than compile the same work again. It describes itself as a drop-in cache for Gradle, Maven, TurboRepo, SCCache and Bazel that does not require changes to code, the build process or cloud setup. Its documentation also lists CCache, REST/gRPC, Redis (RESP) and GitHub Actions. Buildless describes its infrastructure as a Cloudflare edge CDN and routing layer connected to a Redis-compatible backend through Dragonfly Cloud, with tunable replication and durable in-memory storage. The Team plan adds premium caching with replication, edge serving and persistence. Individual / OSS is listed as free, with one project, one user, 3GB of cache space and 100GB of transfer. Team is listed as free during the public beta, with five projects, up to 50 users, 10GB of cache and 1TB of transfer. Builds are not halted or throttled when usage exceeds storage or transfer limits, but overages are charged. A Business option lists private cloud or on-premises hosting, with pricing TBD.
For and against
For
- Supports several named build tools and protocols.
- Drop-in use is described without build-process changes.
- Free Individual / OSS option is listed.
- Team includes premium caching with replication.
- Self-hosted Business option is listed.
Against
- Overages are charged when storage or transfer is exceeded.
- Business pricing is TBD.
- Team pricing is listed as free during public beta.
The verdict
Buildless focuses on reusing compiled output through remote caching, with tool support spanning several build ecosystems. Its free-listed plans have defined storage and transfer allowances, and usage beyond those limits incurs overages.
Who it suits
Buildless is aimed at developers using build systems such as Gradle, Maven, Bazel or SCCache, including Java/Kotlin, C++, Swift, C and JavaScript developers. Teams evaluating remote caching can compare the listed project, user, storage and transfer allowances.
