Bookmint
What it is
Bookmint is a browser-based formatting tool for independent authors who want to turn manuscripts into print PDFs and ebooks. It imports .docx, .md, and .txt files, detects chapters from headings, and picks up footnotes. Authors can choose among 55 adjustable templates for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, cookbooks, and children's books, then change fonts, margins, drop caps, borders, and title pages. Live previews cover print and ebook layouts; device previews show reflowing pages on phones, e-readers, and tablets in light, sepia, and night modes. Text can also be edited in the app. Exports include print PDFs with trim, bleed, crop marks, and embedded fonts, as well as accessible EPUBs. The print PDF is preflighted for KDP and IngramSpark, and Kindle, Apple Books, and Kobo are named ebook stores. The maker says manuscript processing happens in the browser, files are not uploaded to a server, and no account is needed. The free plan includes exports, but they carry a Bookmint attribution unless activated; beta activation is free. Paid access is listed from £29.99.
