What it is
BookSetter is web-based software for turning manuscripts into validated ebook and print-ready files. It is intended for independent authors and publishers, and accepts DOCX, Markdown, TXT, RTF, ODT, HTML, reStructuredText, AsciiDoc, Org, and LaTeX. The workflow asks authors to confirm a detected Book Map, choose an edition direction, compare rendered proofs, and export eligible package files. Outputs can include print-ready PDF, generic EPUB, Kindle-targeted EPUB, DOCX content, and validation reports. Reports cover EPUB conformance, PDF preflight, accessibility, text integrity, font rights, and reproducibility. Optional metered AI can explain readiness evidence and suggest DOCX formatting operations for review; deterministic parsing, rendering, and validation remain authoritative. The free beta is restricted to eligible verified creators and one account-bound manuscript package, with fair-use limits. Paid plans include a regular single book at $49 per book, additional launch books at $29 per book, and multi-book packs. BookSetter prepares files and reports but does not currently upload or distribute books to retail marketplaces. Authors retain manuscript ownership under a limited service license.
