Aalto
What it is
Aalto is a semi-modular software synthesizer from Madrona Labs, built around a patchable interface. Its complex oscillator provides FM, timbre, and waveshape controls while calculating sound dynamically rather than using static wavetables. Every voice includes an independently controllable, patchable sequencer with rate and offset controls. Voice modules also provide a lowpass gate with vactrol emulation and a patchable waveguide or delay whose feedback loop contains a waveshaper and peaking EQ. A state-variable filter offers simultaneous outputs that can be mixed. Aalto runs on macOS and Windows as a plug-in: VST is available on both systems, and AU is available on Mac.
