XipOS
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
What it is
XipOS is network optimization software for satellite and wireless links, with tools for traffic balancing, bonding, steering, and application performance. It can be deployed as a virtual network function or supplied in integrated XipLink appliance hardware. The virtual version supports KVM/QEMU and VMware ESXi or Player and scales from 1,000 to 300,000 TCP sessions. A virtualized blade server can provide aggregate throughput beyond 3 Gbit/s. Network features include SCPS-based TCP acceleration, compression, packet coalescing, byte caching, adaptive QoS, and traffic steering with load rebalancing and failover. XipACE provides Layer 7 traffic visibility and application-based analytics. XipOS supports SNMP and Netconf, and can be managed through a GUI or the XipLink Management System, which offers profiles, updates, licensing, statistics, security features, graphs, and dashboards. UX-Probe measures file download time, webpage loading, and video playback quality on a user-defined schedule. License choices include a complete feature set or SCPS-only, with optional ROHCv2 compression and AES-256 IPSec encryption. Pricing and free-trial terms are not public; pricing is available on request.
For and against
For
- Virtual or integrated appliance deployment options.
- Supports KVM/QEMU and VMware hypervisors.
- Includes SCPS acceleration, compression, and adaptive QoS.
- SNMP and Netconf support management-system integration.
- UX-Probe measures downloads, page loads, and video playback.
Against
- Pricing is available on request.
- No free-trial terms are listed.
- Bracketed deployments need instances at hub and remote sites for all optimization features.
- Optimized traffic is limited to the instance’s rated throughput.
The verdict
XipOS offers a broad set of traffic optimization and management functions for satellite and wireless links. Deployment, licensing, and throughput requirements are key points to clarify with XipLink.
Who it suits
It suits organizations working with satellite or wireless networks that need link and traffic optimization, including the multi-orbit SD-WAN and military or government environments described by XipLink. Teams should be prepared to discuss custom requirements with a XipLink representative.
