Weave GitOps
What it is
Weave GitOps extends Flux with a dashboard and tools for continuous delivery across teams. The dashboard helps operators inspect application lifecycles, spot drift, check cluster health, roll back changes and monitor operations. Both editions require a running Kubernetes cluster. The Open Source plan is free and requires Flux; its GitOps CLI supports macOS and Linux. Enterprise adds application deployment across multiple clusters in cloud and hybrid environments through Git and Cluster API. It supports canary, blue/green and A/B rollouts, with success and rollback criteria tied to observability metrics. Named metric sources include Prometheus, Datadog and New Relic. Enterprise also offers policy-as-code checks at commit, build, deploy and runtime stages, plus team workspaces, multi-tenancy, role-based access and enterprise identity integration. OIDC login and Kubernetes RBAC govern access, and infrastructure integrations include Terraform, Crossplane and Cluster API providers. Critical 24/7 support is advertised for Enterprise workloads. The Open Source guide notes that dashboard login sessions are not persisted when running multiple replicas.
For and against
For
- Free Open Source plan at no cost
- Dashboard surfaces drift and cluster health
- Enterprise supports multiple rollout strategies
- Integrates with named observability and infrastructure tools
Against
- Requires a running Kubernetes cluster and Flux
- Login sessions are not persisted across multiple replicas
The verdict
Weave GitOps combines Flux-based delivery with application visibility and rollback tools. The Open Source edition requires Kubernetes and Flux, while Enterprise adds fleet, policy and team-management features.
Who it suits
It suits teams managing Kubernetes applications through Flux, from operators who need lifecycle visibility to enterprises coordinating deployments across clusters. Enterprise features are aimed at organizations needing rollout strategies, policy checks and team access controls.
