Vivid Walls
What it is
Vivid Walls is a native macOS app for using Wallpaper Engine scene files and setting video, web, GIF, and image wallpapers. It renders scenes on Apple Silicon with a Metal scene engine. Wallpapers can respond to cursor movement, clicks, system audio, and focus modes. Users can span scenes across displays or choose separate ones, then schedule them by time or focus mode. The app pauses when the desktop is fully covered or an app is fullscreen, lowers its frame rate on battery, and respects Low Power Mode. Eight animated 1080p wallpapers are included on first launch. A free Windows Companion transfers a Wallpaper Engine library to the Mac over local Wi-Fi using a four-character code. The free plan keeps the bundled wallpapers; the full library is a one-time $$9.99 purchase. The app requires macOS 14.0 or later and Apple Silicon M1 or later, so Intel Macs are unsupported. The maker says most supported scenes render correctly, though some may have issues. The maker also says imported files stay on the Mac and optional audio processing is local, not recorded, stored, or transmitted.
