vCluster Platform
San Francisco, California, United States
What it is
vCluster Platform provides a management plane for deploying, configuring, and operating tenant cluster fleets through a web UI, CLI, and API. It manages tenants across EKS, GKE, AKS, bare metal, and private cloud, and offers shared-node, dedicated-node, private-node, Auto Nodes, and Standalone tenancy models. Teams can use vCluster Cloud, where the platform is hosted while host and virtual clusters remain in the customer's infrastructure, or run the entire platform self-hosted. The free plan costs nothing and allows unlimited virtual clusters within a limit of 64 CPUs or 32 GPUs, with a maximum of one HA vCluster. Listed functions include cluster provisioning, multi-cluster management, policy enforcement, and upgrade management. Enterprise features include SSO, audit logging, zero-day vulnerability alerts, security review, and FIPS-compliant images. One isolation consideration is that tenants on shared nodes share the kernel, kubelet, node filesystem, scheduler, host network, CNI, CSI, and device plugins. The maker describes use by AI cloud providers, AI factories, and public and private cloud teams.
For and against
For
- Manages fleets across EKS, GKE, AKS, and other environments
- Offers several tenant isolation models
- Supports provisioning, policy enforcement, and upgrades
- Free plan includes unlimited virtual clusters within resource limits
Against
- Free plan is capped at 64 CPUs or 32 GPUs
- Free plan permits a maximum of one HA vCluster
- Shared nodes share key host components across tenants
The verdict
vCluster Platform combines fleet management with multiple deployment and tenancy choices. Check the free plan’s resource and HA limits, and account for shared host components when choosing shared-node tenancy.
Who it suits
vCluster Platform suits cloud teams managing tenant cluster fleets across supported cloud, bare-metal, or private-cloud environments. The free plan may suit deployments within its CPU or GPU limit and one-HA-vCluster cap.
