VaultNote

What it is

VaultNote is an encrypted markdown note app for Windows, Linux, Android, and supported browsers. Notes can stay on the device, or optionally sync to a GitHub repository the user owns. It has both a rich WYSIWYG editor and a markdown editor with live preview. Folders and tags help organize notes, which can also be starred, pinned, searched, sorted, and filtered. A browser extension saves bookmarks with one click and can retrieve page titles, descriptions, and favicons. GitHub sync uses OAuth device flow, supports repository and branch selection, and can be set to run every 2, 5, or 10 minutes. The site says synced notes are encrypted with AES-256-CBC before leaving the device and that the master password is never stored. Fingerprint or face unlock is supported. Notes can be shared as public, secret, or password-protected GitHub Gists and exported in Markdown. VaultNote is open source under AGPL-3.0. Its free plan costs nothing, with no subscriptions or hidden fees. Forgotten master passwords cannot be recovered for encrypted notes.
