Thusfar
What it is
Thusfar is a free, open-source Windows tray app that records a short personal recap when a gaming session ends, helping players remember where they stopped. It reads the local Steam library, detects installed Steam games across drives, and watches for game exits. After a session longer than 10 minutes, a prompt lets you skip, write one line, or answer three questions about location, next steps, and what to remember. Sessions shorter than 10 minutes are recorded without that prompt. A game library and per-game recap view show notes, playtime, last-played information, and session history. Console, emulator, and non-Steam sessions can be logged manually; Epic, GOG, and other storefronts are not auto-detected in version one. Data is stored locally in SQLite. Optional IGDB cover art needs free Twitch developer credentials; without setup, placeholder art remains available. The portable release is a ZIP archive requiring Windows 10 or 11 x64 and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. It is unsigned, so SmartScreen may display a prompt.
For and against
For
- Automatic Steam session detection
- Three recap prompts after longer sessions
- Per-game notes, playtime, and history
- Local SQLite storage
- Free and MIT-licensed
Against
- Windows-only desktop app
- Non-Steam games require manual logging
- Sessions under 10 minutes skip the prompt
- Unsigned release may trigger SmartScreen
The verdict
Thusfar keeps game recaps, play history, and notes in a local Windows app with automatic Steam tracking. Its manual fallback covers other game sources, but the platform and runtime requirements narrow where it can be used.
Who it suits
It suits Windows players who pause games for weeks or months and want a personal reminder. Steam users get automatic tracking, while console, emulator, and other storefront players can log sessions manually.
