Thumbor
Thumbor · Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
What it is
Thumbor is a free, open-source image service for on-demand cropping, resizing, and flipping. Its smart mode checks for faces when choosing a crop, then uses feature detection if it finds none. You can chain filters such as brightness, contrast, grayscale, red-eye, and blur. Thumbor supports WebP delivery to browsers that accept the format, along with AVIF support and responsive images. It lists file, HTTP, Redis, and Mongo options for loaders and storage, and can be extended with custom filters, storage, loaders, engines, detection, and optimizers. Image URLs can be signed with a SECURITY_KEY and HMAC to help prevent tampering. The default HTTP loader uses HTTP; HTTPS and strict HTTPS options are also described. Thumbor is distributed as a Python package, and current releases require Python 3.10 or newer. It runs through an API, on Linux, or in a self-hosted setup. The project lists an MIT license and is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
