Texmaker
What it is
Texmaker is a free desktop editor for writing LaTeX documents on Linux, macOS, and Windows. It brings editing, compilation, document navigation, and PDF viewing tools into one application. Editing features include Unicode, spell checking while typing, code completion, and code folding. Its structure view updates during editing, and master mode supports projects split across multiple files. Quick Build compiles with predefined commands; after compilation, Texmaker identifies log errors and warnings and lets users jump to the corresponding lines. The built-in PDF viewer supports continuous scrolling and SyncTeX. Other aids include 370 mathematical symbols, document and presentation wizards, and LaTeX documentation. When opening a .tex document, Texmaker can scan detected .bib files and add bibliography references to auto-completion. It is released under GNU General Public License Version 2 and costs nothing. Texmaker is only an editor, so working with LaTeX also requires a separate distribution, such as TeX Live or MiKTeX on Windows, TeX Live on Linux, or MacTeX on Mac.
