Tencent Cloud Application Performance Management
What it is
Tencent Cloud Application Performance Management (APM) monitors application performance with metrics, traces, and logs, and supports distributed analysis and troubleshooting. It can monitor applications in real time using probes without code modifications. Traces link request paths across microservices and can include parameters, transaction data, errors, exceptions, method stacks, and instance environment information. APM discovers dependencies and displays application topologies to help analyze bottlenecks. It groups performance and exception metrics by dimensions such as API, exception, and database call to identify slow APIs, SQL statements, and recurring exceptions. Named database support includes MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, and Redis. APM supports OpenTelemetry and works with SkyWalking and Jaeger tracing protocols through reporting-configuration changes. Traces can be associated with Cloud Log Service logs, while Cloud Monitor dashboards and CKafka trace delivery are also supported with configuration and permissions. Applications outside Tencent Cloud can connect if network access is available, through a public endpoint or private connectivity such as Direct Connect to Tencent Cloud VPC. New users receive a 15-day trial with a 100 million Span reporting limit and seven-day trace storage. Pay-as-you-go pricing is $0.02 a month, billed hourly, per million Spans reported; trace retention costs 0.012 USD per million Spans per day, with one million Spans per day free for reporting and retention.
For and against
For
- Monitors with metrics, traces, and logs.
- Probes work without code modifications.
- Supports OpenTelemetry, SkyWalking, and Jaeger protocols.
- Discovers application dependencies and topologies.
- One million Spans per day free for reporting and retention.
Against
- New-user trial lasts 15 days.
- Trial limits reporting to 100 million Spans.
- Trial trace storage lasts seven days.
- Trace retention has a separate listed charge.
The verdict
Tencent Cloud APM combines distributed traces with metrics, logs, and topology views for application troubleshooting. Review the trial limits and hourly usage-based charges, including separate trace-retention pricing, when considering it.
Who it suits
APM suits teams that need to follow requests across microservices and inspect application performance, errors, and dependencies. It can also serve applications outside Tencent Cloud when network access to APM is available.
