Tectonicus
What it is
Tectonicus generates detailed, zoomable maps from Minecraft Java worlds by first building a 3D model. Its map style aims to resemble the view players see in Minecraft. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows; users download a release, prepare an XML configuration file, and launch it from the command line with Java. After the initial render, later runs with the same options are quicker because only changed tiles are rendered. Signs appear by default, but a filter can restrict which ones show. Signs marked with #view can add first-person map views, with configurable height, angle, field of view, and nighttime rendering. Maps support dimensions, markers, and waypoints, and can be viewed offline or served from a web server. Release 2.31 supports Minecraft 1.21 through 1.21.11, but not Minecraft 26.1. Output images may use gigabytes of disk space depending on world size; WebP or JPG and closestZoomSize can reduce storage use. Tectonicus is free under the BSD 3-Clause license.
For and against

- Creates zoomable maps from Minecraft Java worlds.
- Later renders update changed tiles only.
- First-person views can be added from signs.
- Supports offline viewing, web servers, dimensions, and waypoints.
- Runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Against
- Map images may use gigabytes of disk space.
- Minecraft 26.1 is not yet supported.
- Copper golem statues do not work; shelves render partially.
- Requires command-line use with Java and XML configuration.
The verdict
Tectonicus offers detailed, configurable maps for Minecraft Java worlds, with incremental rendering and sign-based first-person views. Consider its storage demands and Minecraft version limits before using it.
Who it suits
Tectonicus suits Minecraft Java players who want zoomable world maps, including offline viewing, server hosting, dimensions, and waypoints. It is also suited to users comfortable running command-line software with Java and configuring XML.
