SuperSlicer
What it is
SuperSlicer converts STL, OBJ, AMF, and 3MF models into G-code for FFF printers or PNG layers for mSLA printers. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and describes compatibility with modern RepRap-toolchain printers using Marlin, Prusa, Klipper, and other firmware. This free project is a personal fork of PrusaSlicer, which is based on Slic3r, and uses the GNU Affero General Public License version 3. Print preparation controls cover top surfaces, infill density, thin walls, hole dimensions, overhangs, brims, and seams. The software supports multiple extruders, separate settings for multiple objects, variable layer heights, and varied infill patterns. Generated calibration tests and built-in calibration prints help with tuning. A command-line interface works without the graphical interface, while customizable G-code macros and post-processing scripts support additional processing. Prebuilt 64-bit releases are listed for all three platforms.
For and against
For
- Free plan with no listed charge
- Supports FFF and mSLA output
- Includes calibration tests and prints
- Offers multi-extruder and variable-layer-height controls
- Provides a command-line interface
Against
- Linux and macOS builds were compiled but not tested by the maintainer
- Version 2.7.63.0 beta 2 is listed as a pre-release
- Printer compatibility depends on supported firmware and toolchains
The verdict
SuperSlicer provides broad slicing controls and both graphical and command-line workflows at no cost. Users should note the maintainer’s testing caveat for Linux and macOS builds.
Who it suits
SuperSlicer suits 3D-printing users who need detailed slicing controls for filament or resin workflows. It also fits users who want command-line operation or customizable G-code processing.
