Stripe Identity
San Francisco, United States and Dublin, Ireland
What it is
Stripe Identity programmatically verifies user identities to help businesses address fraud while limiting friction for legitimate customers. It checks government ID documents from more than 100 countries, captures IDs, extracts document data, and provides access to collected ID images and selfies. Stripe says machine learning detects fake IDs and spoofed photos, and the service can compare an ID photo with a selfie. It can also validate Social Security numbers and addresses against databases, though ID number lookup is currently limited to US Social Security numbers. Businesses can embed Identity with pre-built libraries and SDKs; Stripe Connect onboarding can request additional checks based on platform risk signals. The verification interface supports mobile and web capture, customizable colors and branding, and 53 languages. Stripe describes uses including KYC onboarding, marketplace trust and safety, fraud reduction, and preventing account takeovers. It says users consent before sharing data and can manage, retrieve, and delete it. Pricing includes $0.50 per ID number lookup and $1.50 per ID document verification and selfie, with the first 50 verifications free.
