Spyder
What it is
Spyder is a free, open-source scientific Python development environment for scientists, engineers, and data analysts. Its Editor creates, opens, and edits source files, highlights syntax, and runs whole files, lines, selections, or code cells. The IPython Console provides code completion, calltips, debugger integration, a Variable Explorer, and Matplotlib plots. The Variable Explorer lets users inspect and edit lists, dictionaries, NumPy arrays, and Pandas DataFrames, then visualize supported objects. Spyder 6 includes a Debugger pane for execution control, stack navigation, and breakpoint management. Built-in integration covers Matplotlib, NumPy, Pandas, and other scientific libraries. Standalone installers include Python with common scientific packages, while external distributions can add more. Spyder supports Linux, macOS, web, and Windows, and documents integrated debugger, testing, and project-management capabilities. Third-party plugins currently require a Conda or virtual-environment installation.
