SpecShield
What it is
SpecShield compares OpenAPI descriptions to identify changes that could disrupt existing API consumers, then reports its findings as GitHub checks. It flags removed endpoints, tightened types, and newly required fields in pull requests. A consumer registry records dependent services so a deploy gate can assess compatibility. GitHub checks include a diff and compatibility verdict and can block merges when a consumer would break. SpecShield also evaluates OpenAPI descriptions against OWASP and design rulesets, assigning a 0–100 score and letter grade. Integrations include a GitHub App and Action, a CI CLI, IntelliJ plugin, SARIF output, and an MCP server for AI agents. The Free plan costs nothing, with one user, unlimited comparisons, one GitHub App pull request check, and seven-day history. Team costs $89 a month, or $900/year ($75/mo billed annually), for up to 10 users and adds registry, deploy gate, audit trail, bidirectional contract testing, Slack alerts, shared workspace, and RBAC. Enterprise pricing is custom. The browser diff accepts OpenAPI 3.0 and 3.1 in JSON or YAML without persisting submitted specs.
