Snag

What it is

Snag is a free iPhone app for identifying music with Apple’s ShazamKit. It saves a short recording for every identification attempt, including ones that do not produce a match. If a first attempt misses a song, Retry Analysis can check different parts of the saved clip and may find it. Snag can record audio without an internet connection, though identifying the recording requires a connection and can be done later.

The history tracks attempt dates and can also include optional location and personal notes. Users can replay recordings, try identification again, open identified songs in Apple Music or Spotify, and share identified songs using a link. Recordings and history are stored on the iPhone and can sync through the user’s private iCloud account. For matching, the phone sends an audio fingerprint directly to Apple’s Shazam Catalog; Snag says it does not see, store, or process that fingerprint. The app has no Snag account, advertising trackers, or third-party product analytics.
