What it is
Sayella is an AAC communication app that turns pictures and words into spoken messages for nonverbal and minimally verbal children and adults. Its customizable boards use a research-based core vocabulary, fixed button positions, and selectable sizes. Speech works offline, including if a subscription lapses. Sayella supports touch, VoiceOver, and TalkBack on iPhone and iPad; boards can be imported and exported in Open Board Format, including .obf and .obz files. Users can generate symbols from words or photos. Free accounts receive two generations, while paid plans include unlimited generations; requests go through Vercel AI Gateway to Google’s Imagen and Gemini image models. Sayella says synced board data is encrypted, analytics do not receive AAC content, and it does not sell personal data. The Free plan is free, billed forever, for one child and one device with starter vocabulary. Monthly is £7.99 a month, Yearly is £59 a year, and Lifetime is £189, paid once; paid plans cover up to five children and include cloud sync, team accounts, and unlimited generations. Android and browser access are not yet available.
