RVM-Web
What it is
RVM-Web is a free, MIT-licensed application for removing backgrounds from video and images on the user’s own computer. Video matting offers MobileNetV3 or ResNet50 models and can export an MP4 composition, an alpha mask, or a PNG sequence. Image removal uses rembg/U2Net and produces PNG files with full alpha transparency. Image and video upscaling supports 2× and 4× through Lanczos or Real-ESRGAN, with original audio preserved when video is upscaled. Image tools include crop, resize, rotation or flips, adjustments, filters, and format conversion. Video tools include trimming, cropping, resizing, speed changes, compression, GIF export, audio extraction, muting, and reversing. Transparent results can be used in Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, or OBS. Processing stays local, with no account or server. CUDA acceleration has automatic CPU fallback, though processing is slower without a GPU. Installation uses uv and opens the app in a browser at http://localhost:7860.
For and against
For
- Local processing keeps footage on the computer
- Video exports include alpha options
- Image and video upscaling supported
- No subscription, watermark, or usage cap
- Works with major editing and streaming tools
Against
- Processing is slower without a GPU
- Installation requires uv and local launch
- Runs through a browser at localhost
The verdict
RVM-Web combines local background removal, transparent exports, upscaling, and basic image and video editing. Its privacy-focused workflow avoids accounts and servers, while GPU availability affects processing speed.
Who it suits
RVM-Web suits creators, streamers, editors, and anyone handling footage they do not want to upload. It works on Linux, macOS, and Windows and supports both image and video input.
