What it is
Retain is a flashcard app for Android, iOS, and the web. It combines AI models with learning science to create personalized study plans: learners set a goal and receive a plan. The service can use PDFs, images, YouTube videos, GoodNotes notes, and Notion notes as learning sources. PDF, PNG, and JPEG uploads are listed, and Retain says its AI can turn PDFs into relevant flashcards. Available card types include cloze, image occlusion, and custom Anki cards, with mixed card formats and study modes plus adaptive review. Users can share decks or individual flashcards through links. Retain has a free plan at no cost; Retain Ultra includes AI-powered study features, while Retain Pro is a paid in-app subscription with no price listed. B2B licenses are available for companies and educational institutions by contacting Retain. The privacy policy says aggregated, anonymized usage data may help improve AI models. Uploads may face a fair-use cap, and AI cards can contain errors.
