What it is
Relic is a clipboard manager that captures copied items and syncs them across devices. Desktop apps capture copies automatically; on phones, users must share an item to Relic or use a shortcut or tile. Search works across text, meaning, date phrases, and text recognized in screenshots. Tagging, OCR, image captioning, and semantic search run on the user's device without cloud AI. In the vault, items can be titled, tagged, annotated, saved, and given reminders. A command-line tool can read and search the vault, and AI agents can connect to search, save, and retrieve items. Relic encrypts content on-device, and its server stores encrypted content. The maker says content, titles, notes, and tags are unreadable to Relic, though service metadata such as account email and item counts is collected. The apps, sync server, encryption code, and self-host stack are open source. Self-hosting is free under AGPL-3.0. The hosted Free plan supports three synced devices and 250 MB; Pro is $5 per month billed yearly or $7 month to month.
For and against
For
- Search by text, meaning, dates, and screenshot text
- AI processing runs locally without cloud AI
- Open-source apps, sync server, and self-host stack
- Free self-hosting under AGPL-3.0
Against
- Phone capture requires sharing, a shortcut, or tile
- Free hosted plan supports three synced devices
- Pro costs $5 per month billed yearly
The verdict
Relic pairs cross-device clipboard sync with local search tools and a self-hosting option. Phone capture is less automatic than desktop capture, and hosted plans have device and storage limits.
Who it suits
Relic suits people who want to collect and search clipboard history across devices, including users who prefer local AI processing or self-hosting. Phone users should be comfortable sharing items or using a shortcut or tile to capture them.
