Ratatype
What it is
Ratatype is an online typing tutor for people looking to improve their typing. Its courses cover multiple keyboard layouts and languages, with up to 20 lessons per course and up to 25 exercises per lesson. During lessons, animated hands indicate which finger should press each key. Game mode lets learners earn coins and purchase characters while practicing. After registering and taking a typing speed test, users can obtain an online certificate. Teachers can sync classes and enrolled students from Google Classroom, and Ratatype says its exercises can be used in computer science or technology classes. Other tools include a keyboard test for key response and lag, plus a word and character counter. Ratatype says the tutor and test work on Windows 8 or later, macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux with Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge; it is also available on phones and tablets. The free plan includes unlimited speed checks and up to 10 typing exercises per day, with ads. Ratatype Plus costs $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year and includes unlimited exercises and no ads.
