QEFI Entry Manager
What it is
QEFI Entry Manager is a free, GPL-3.0 Qt application for managing EFI boot entries and EFI system partitions. It can change boot order, add or import entries, and choose the next boot entry for an immediate or later reboot. Entries can be enabled, disabled, deleted, or opened for detailed properties. EFI partitions can be mounted or unmounted, opened, and used for moving, renaming, or copying files. Creating an entry from an EFI application file is available as a beta feature that may not work on every system. Release 0.5.0 adds a command-line tool for manipulating entries. The project provides Linux and Windows downloads, Arch packages through AUR and archlinuxcn, and says it works natively with FreeBSD. Root or sudo is required on Linux, and administrator access on Windows. Prebuilt binaries are not provided for Ubuntu 16, 18, or 20 and some architectures such as ARM and aarch64.
For and against
For
- Free and GPL-3.0 licensed
- Edits boot order and next boot
- Manages EFI partition files
- Includes command-line entry controls
- Supports Linux, Windows, and FreeBSD
Against
- Requires elevated privileges
- EFI entry creation is beta
- No binaries for some older systems
- ARM and aarch64 builds are unavailable
The verdict
QEFI Entry Manager offers broad EFI entry and partition editing in a free Qt interface. Its privilege requirements, beta entry creation, and limited prebuilt architecture coverage are important before installation.
Who it suits
It suits Linux and Windows users who need graphical EFI entry and partition controls. FreeBSD users may also use it, while administrators should account for required privileges and binary availability.
