What it is
Pivot Animator is a Windows program for making 2D stick-man and sprite animations by positioning figures or objects with handles and arranging poses into frames. Users can build their own figures and objects, with up to 30,000 segments in a figure, and load images as backgrounds or sprites. Version 5 can create inbetween frames between keyframes to help smooth movement. It also includes a virtual camera for pan and zoom, colour and gradient backgrounds, and text styled with fonts installed on the computer. Projects use .piv animation files and .stk figure files. Export options include GIF, APNG, WMV, WEBM, MP4, FFV1, AVI, PNG, JPEG, and SVG. Pivot Animator is free for personal or commercial use. The current version is Windows-only, with requirements including Windows 7 SP1 or later, DirectX 11 or later, a GPU, and 60MB of installation disk space. It does not support sound or music in animations; the FAQ suggests adding audio after exporting to a video editor. The installer offers optional third-party software that users can decline.
