Pigmi
What it is
Pigmi is a desktop editor for creating texture palettes, gradient atlases, and PBR material maps. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, with a Free plan listed as free. Gradient controls include linear, radial, and conic styles, stepped rows and columns, RGB or HSL interpolation, editable color stops, and opacity. Palette elements can be arranged in nested folders, selected together, reordered, shown or hidden, isolated, copied, pasted, and searched by name. Material settings cover albedo, roughness, metallic, emission, clearcoat, and clearcoat roughness. Enabled maps export as PNG or WebP, and Pigmi can create a packed MRC map while keeping document and export edits synchronized. Palette generation uses Huemint and retains locked stops. Optional Blender add-ons handle palette UV mapping, vertex-color painting, and mesh attachments. A local STDIO MCP adapter lets compatible AI clients inspect and edit documents, but requires Node.js. Editing and exporting remain local.
For and against
For
- Supports linear, radial, and conic gradients
- Organizes palettes in nested folders
- Exports PNG, WebP, and packed MRC maps
- Includes PBR material properties
- Offers optional Blender add-ons
Against
- Palette generation sends constraints to Huemint
- AI adapter requires Node.js
- Windows builds lack Authenticode signing
- macOS release is not notarized by Apple
The verdict
Pigmi combines palette, gradient, and PBR map editing in one desktop workflow. Its local editing and broad export options are useful, while external palette generation and release-signing limitations matter for some users.
Who it suits
Pigmi suits texture artists and PBR workflows on Linux, macOS, or Windows. It also fits Blender users and people working with compatible AI clients.
