Overhang
What it is
Overhang is a free macOS app for reaching status bar items that macOS no longer draws. It lists each hidden item alongside the icon of the app that owns it, then lets you open its menu. Finding and listing items requires no permission. Click-through is optional and uses Accessibility; if an app handles mouse events in a way Overhang cannot press, it brings that app to the front instead. Settings include options to launch at login and enable click-through. Overhang works with Macs with or without a notch and with external displays. It does not need a network connection and says it collects, sends, or stores no user information. While running, it reads icon positions, sizes, and owning apps in memory, then discards that information when it quits. The app is free and requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later, with a universal binary for Apple silicon and Intel. The maker identifies GitHub repository releases as the official builds.
