OpenPISCO
Palaiseau, France
What it is
OpenPISCO is a free, open-source research and development platform for topology optimization using level-set methods. It combines optimization algorithms, direct and adjoint analyses, finite-element capabilities, constrained optimization, physical and geometrical criteria, and remeshing. Designs can use grids, unstructured meshes, or body-fitted meshes, with fixed-mesh shape capturing and body-fitted mesh shape tracking. An interface to MMG3D supports remeshing, while the Muscat library supplies mesh handling, finite elements, and linear algebra operations. Users can work through a Python library and API, the OpenPiscoCL command-line application, or a graphical application. Plugins allow custom mesh readers, optimization algorithms, and physics solvers without changing source code. Documented solver options include Code_Aster, FreeFem, ZSet, and OpenFOAM, plus an internal finite-element solver. OpenPiscoCL supports automation, batch processing, and HPC execution; the GUI is intended for visualization. Documentation reports installation on Ubuntu Linux, macOS, Windows 10, and WSL 20.04. Optional Windows dependencies are not packaged, so WSL is suggested.
