Novelcrafter
Novelcrafter · Hamburg, Germany · founded 2023
What it is
Novelcrafter is a writing platform for authors developing stories in different genres and forms, from first ideas through long-form work. Its Codex keeps characters, places, lore, and other story information in a wiki that automatically links entries. Planning tools include a grid for arranging acts, chapters, and scenes and a matrix for viewing a story at a glance. Authors can import Word, Markdown, or HTML files and export their work. It is mobile compatible on the web, Android, and iOS for jotting down ideas and reviewing stories. Listed AI options include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Mistral AI, OpenRouter, LM Studio, and Ollama; Hobbyist and higher plans allow users to bring their own AI key. The privacy policy says creative work is not used to train AI or machine-learning models. Data may be stored in the EU or US, with the EU as the primary location. Without an active subscription, users retain read-only access and can view and export data, but cannot add or edit it. Plans start at $4 a month, billed monthly, with a 21-day trial and no free plan.
