What it is
ModelRisk is a Monte Carlo simulation add-in for Microsoft Excel that helps model uncertainty in spreadsheet inputs and generate scenarios. It includes 136 probability distributions, 34 time series models, and 14 copulas for linking uncertain inputs. Users can fit distributions, time series, and copulas to spreadsheet data using maximum likelihood estimation, then rank candidates with SIC, HQIC, and AIC. The Results Viewer presents nine chart types and statistics tables, supports side-by-side run comparisons, and exports results to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or PDF. ModelRisk also lists converters for @RISK and Crystal Ball models, a Pelican integration, and compatibility with Excel auditing tools, Excel Tables, and Power Query. Its SWAP tool converts functions into fixed, annotated values for plain Excel, and a free viewer opens .vmrs results files. It requires Windows 10 or 11 and specified Microsoft Excel versions. Vose Software offers a 15-day trial. Desktop costs €1,550 a year; Network costs €4,750 a year.
