Mission US
What it is
Mission US is a free educational media project that explores U.S. history through interactive narratives. Developed especially for middle school students in grades 5–8, it lets players make choices that show how ordinary people experienced the past. Educator guides add historical context, activities, discussion prompts, and further reading. Teachers can create classes and student accounts in a dashboard, then monitor progress and in-game data; tracking is limited to accounts created through that dashboard, and separately created accounts cannot be linked. Access is available through web streaming, PC and Mac downloads, Chromebook and iPad apps, and a Windows 10 app for Up from the Dust. Flight to Freedom does not currently have a streaming version, and full game access requires registration. Historians from the American Social History Project/Center for Media & Learning at CUNY Graduate Center contribute to the history content. The service does not include third-party or targeted advertising. Its safeguards include user authentication and encryption in transit and at rest. Educational customer information is deleted within 365 days unless earlier deletion is requested; continued retention requires renewed permission.
