Overview

Metronome Beats is a configurable beat-keeping app built primarily for musicians practising or performing. It suits players who want more than a basic click, particularly a choice of meter, subdivisions and practice tools. Its 900 BPM ceiling and companion drum patterns give it range, though the separate mobile purchases and ads in the free Android version are worth weighing.

The maker also describes uses for running, golf practice and breathing exercises. Metronome Beats is available on the web and for Android, iOS and macOS; mobile purchases are separate. For other options, see Metronome Apps.

Key features

Tempo and meter

The web app lets users set BPM, beats per bar and clicks per beat, then adjust tempo in 1 or 5 BPM increments. On mobile, tap tempo offers a way to set speed from a tapped pulse, while the speed trainer can gradually increase or decrease it by bars or seconds. That combination suits both quick tempo matching and gradual practice work.

Time-signature support includes compound time, and subdivisions can be set without assuming each beat is a quarter note. Custom time signatures, subdivision control and polyrhythm support are listed, making the app a fit for players working with less conventional rhythmic structures as well as straightforward timekeeping.

Drum patterns and live use

The programmable drum machine adds multiple kits and mixer controls, so users can practise against patterns rather than only a click. Pro adds songs with configurable sections, setlists and Live mode for moving through songs in practice or performance. Those tools are most relevant to players organizing a repertoire; someone who only needs a steady pulse may not need them.

Controls, accounts and ads

The Android guide says the app supports most Bluetooth pedals and hardware media controls, useful for players who want to control playback without reaching for the screen. Signing in enables syncing of entered presets, setlists and songs, and collects basic profile information from Google or Apple sign-in. Stonekick says users can email support to request deletion of their account and data from its live database.

The free Android version displays personalized ads through Google and Amazon, which handle the ad data rather than Stonekick’s own servers. Readers who want an ad-free experience should consider the paid iOS purchase, while those using Android should account for the free version’s advertising.

Pricing

Metronome Beats (free): 0.00 USD per free. The free app contains ads and in-app purchases, making it a no-cost way to use the metronome while accepting advertising.

Metronome Beats Pro (iOS in-app purchase): 8.99 USD per once. It removes adverts and adds saved presets and setlists, plus song creation. This is the stronger fit for iOS users who want organized practice or performance tools; Android and iOS purchases are separate.

Platforms

Metronome Beats covers web, macOS, iOS and Android. The web app provides core tempo and beat configuration, while tap tempo and the speed trainer are described for mobile. The maker links to an online metronome and describes Android and iOS apps; purchases on those mobile platforms are separate.

Who it's for

Metronome Beats is a strong match for musicians who need flexible meter and subdivision settings, tempo training, or drum patterns in one app. Players who organize songs and setlists for performance have a clearer reason to choose Pro. Runners, golfers and people practising breathing exercises may also find a regular pulse useful, though the app’s primary purpose is musical timekeeping.

It is less compelling for someone who wants only an uncomplicated click and does not need the extra rhythm or performance tools. Android users who prefer not to see personalized ads should also look elsewhere or weigh the trade-off before choosing the free version.

Pros and cons

Pros: Flexible time signatures and subdivisions, including compound time, support varied musical work.
Pros: Tap tempo and a speed trainer serve both quick tempo setting and gradual practice adjustments on mobile.
Pros: Programmable drum patterns, kits and mixer controls offer more than a basic metronome click.
Cons: Android and iOS purchases are separate, so a purchase on one does not cover both mobile platforms.
Cons: The free Android version includes personalized ads, which may be unwelcome during practice.
Cons: Song, setlist and Live mode tools sit in Pro, so users wanting those features need the iOS in-app purchase.

Verdict

Choose Metronome Beats if you want a versatile metronome with unusual-meter support, tempo training and drum patterns, especially if setlists and song sections would help your practice or performance. Its main drawback is the split between platforms and, on Android, ads in the free version; readers seeking only an ad-free basic click may prefer a different option.
