Memex
What it is
Memex is a private learning library for organizing books, podcasts, videos, PDFs, and other documents in one place. Materials can remain local or use iCloud Drive, and the library is designed to work without internet. Core use does not require an account, while notes can link to an exact page, passage, or moment in a source. The complete app adds on-device AI transcription, read-along transcripts, study tools, folders, and export tools. Memex says it cannot access users’ files, and its transcription runs on the device with local models. Its privacy policy describes anonymous usage analytics and crash reports, with no personally identifiable information collected through analytics; PostHog processes the anonymous analytics. The app supports iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Mac use requires macOS 14 or later and an Apple M1 chip or later. The Free plan is free, while Study Monthly is $4.99 a month. Eligible new subscribers can start a 7-day free trial.
