MDXEditor
What it is
MDXEditor is a free, open-source React component for writing Markdown documents in a WYSIWYG editor. It takes Markdown as a string and emits Markdown as a string, without an intermediate HTML representation. Its rich-text engine uses Lexical, and its plugin system lets developers enable features or add support for other Markdown constructs. Listed capabilities include tables, links, images, front matter, shortcuts, directives, JSX components, source editing, diff views, code blocks, and a customizable toolbar. Tables support row and column changes and alignment controls, but do not support HTML tables. The image plugin can handle URL or local-device images, paste and drop, and an upload handler supplied by the integrator. Code blocks support syntax highlighting and language-aware editing, with CodeMirror available for editable blocks. The package is installed from npm in a React project, with setup guidance for Next.js, Vite, Remix, and Create React App. It does not support server rendering; the Next.js App Router guide requires client-side rendering for the editor. It also does not provide controls for changing text font size, color, or family. The project lists an MIT license and directs users to GitHub issues or discussions, contributions, or the author's email for support.
