MDedit
What it is
MDedit is a free, MIT-licensed Markdown editor for Linux, macOS, Windows, and the web. Built with Tauri, it combines source editing, live preview, and native local-file handling. Its tabbed workspace keeps synchronized Edit, Split, and Preview modes, with independent editing state for each open document. Markdown support includes GitHub-flavored syntax, task lists, tables, footnotes, callouts, and syntax highlighting, plus Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX math. Per-document find and replace offers match-case, whole-word, and regular-expression options, alongside formatting shortcuts and automatic list continuation. Documents can be exported as HTML, PNG, PDF, CSV, or SVG. The project says there are no accounts, telemetry, uploads, or server-side rendering, and files remain local. Desktop recovery snapshots can restore tabs and workspace state after shutdowns. Browser sessions cannot resolve files on disk, and imported attachments are limited to 20 MiB each. Desktop builds are unsigned and may trigger operating-system warnings.
