Maroon
Graz, Austria
What it is
Maroon is a free, open source immersive physics laboratory for interactive learning, simulations, and experiments. Learners approach a station and teleport into a room containing its lesson, simulation, or experiment. Activities are designed around active learning, with students participating in the learning process. Listed physics material includes Coulomb’s Law, Falling Coil, Faraday’s Law, Huygens’ Principle, Point Wave, Pendulum, Van de Graaff, and Optics, along with titration and sorting experiments. In the optics activity, users can change parameters and receive real-time visual feedback while exploring reflection, refraction, lenses, and fiber optics. Maroon supports experiment authoring and can run in a browser. Downloadable versions are offered for Windows PCs and virtual reality. Developed with Unity at Graz University of Technology, the project is hosted on GitHub and welcomes contributions, issue reports, and pull requests. Students are invited to add functionality, VR experiences, learning experiences, and physics experiments. SHA-256 checksums are published for Windows and VR archives.
