Kore
What it is
Kore is an open-source Kotlin library that generates Minecraft datapacks from code. It runs during the build and produces regular datapack files, so the server does not need Kore or a Kore plugin. Its typed game data helps catch errors in items, blocks, sounds and commands during the build. The project lists 65+ typed commands, 50+ JSON resource types and 80+ generated registries. Supported datapack features include commands, recipes, loot tables, advancements and custom dimensions.
Kotlin functions, loops and variables can generate repeated content. When the typed interface does not cover a command, function bodies can include raw command lines. Existing datapacks can be migrated incrementally, keeping handwritten sections in use alongside generated ones. Kore is available as a Maven Central dependency; the maker recommends a JDK and Kotlin IDE. An optional Gradle plugin can build, link and reload a datapack when files are saved. A browser playground can generate a datapack ZIP. The project focuses on datapack generation, not resource-pack assets, and does not currently ship mod bindings.
For and against
For
- Generates ordinary datapack files at build time.
- Typed game data helps catch mistakes early.
- Supports recipes, loot tables and advancements.
- Can be integrated with an optional Gradle plugin.
- Existing datapacks can be migrated incrementally.
Against
- Requires a JDK and Kotlin IDE for the recommended setup.
- Does not generate resource-pack assets.
- Does not ship bindings for mods.
- Some commands require raw command lines.
The verdict
Kore is aimed at datapack creators who want to generate content from Kotlin and catch some errors during builds. Its output is server-ready without a Kore runtime, but its scope excludes resource-pack generation and supplied mod bindings.
Who it suits
It suits Kotlin developers creating Minecraft datapacks who want typed game data and build-time error checking. A browser playground is available for trying the library and generating a datapack ZIP.
