What it is
Kdenlive is a free, open-source non-linear video editor for Linux, macOS, and Windows. It is a desktop application with no web or mobile app. Editing tools include multitrack and 3-point editing, keyframeable effects, non-blocking rendering, and proxy editing for 4K and higher-resolution footage, with 4K export. It supports a wide range of video, audio, and image formats and exports to formats supported by FFmpeg. Subtitling includes AI-supported speech-to-text conversion, while animation can connect through Glaxnimate. The Project Bin organizes assets with folders, tags, and multiple bins. Sequences can be nested, rendered independently, and used for scenes or alternate edits. All sequences in a project share one profile, and they cannot be copied directly between projects. Kdenlive is part of the KDE Community. Support includes a manual, tutorials, community channels, and bug reporting. No license fees, registrations, subscriptions, or paid premium features are listed.
