JsonForge
What it is
JsonForge is a visual editor for building Minecraft Bedrock JSON UI screens and exporting UI for resource packs. It runs in modern browsers or as an Electron desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. Users can place elements on a canvas, edit their properties, add textures and inspect the JSON. The editor includes 10 element types, such as panels, images, labels, buttons, toggles and custom elements. Its dockable panels cover Toolbox, Hierarchy, Canvas, Properties, Textures, Bindings and JSON Preview. The canvas supports anchors and the game’s nine-slice texture behavior, with an Edit/Preview toggle. Export targets include forms, HUD overlays and restyled vanilla scoreboards, with .mcaddon or .mcpack output as applicable. The app includes five ore-UI texture sets and Minecraft fonts. Projects can be saved as .jfproject bundles containing an element tree, bindings and textures, or imported and exported as raw Minecraft Bedrock JSON UI .json files. The desktop version can find worlds on the machine and install exported packs in resource and behavior pack folders. The project is MIT-licensed and welcomes bug reports and pull requests. Its guide notes that resource packs can restyle what the game draws but cannot create new values; live text must come from a form script or scoreboard.
For and against
For
- Works in browsers and desktop apps across three operating systems
- Includes 10 UI element types
- Exports forms, HUD overlays and restyled scoreboards
- Bundles five texture sets and Minecraft fonts
- MIT-licensed and welcomes bug reports and pull requests
Against
- Resource packs cannot create new game values
- Live text requires a form script or scoreboard
- Form button grids use the first button’s style for every cell
The verdict
JsonForge combines a visual canvas, texture handling and several Bedrock UI export targets. Its documented limits on live values and form button styling are relevant when planning a screen.
Who it suits
It suits Minecraft Bedrock creators building or restyling JSON UI screens for resource or behavior packs. Users who need new live values should note the guide’s limits on what resource packs can draw.
