GovInfo
Washington, D.C., United States
What it is
GovInfo is a free public service for finding official publications from all three branches of the U.S. Federal Government. Readers can search publication metadata and browse by A to Z, category, date, committee, or author. The website and developer API provide access to content and metadata arranged in self-describing packages. Selected collections are also available as machine-readable bulk data, including XML, with schemas, stylesheets, and user guides for some collections.
GPO applies digital signatures and a visible authenticity seal to PDF documents, which readers can verify in Adobe Acrobat or Reader. GovInfo supports searches for case law, statutes and regulations, and legal commentary, with coverage including U.S. federal material and opinions from more than 100 U.S. courts. Its preservation repository maintains archival copies in separate geographic locations, weekly backups, a standby disaster recovery instance, virus scanning, and file fixity checks. The responsive website works on mobile without a separate app or mobile URL. GovInfo provides full text only for publications stored on the service.
