GitButler
Berlin, Germany
What it is
GitButler is a Git version-control interface with both a graphical client and command-line interface for AI-powered workflows. It lets developers manage multiple independent branches in one working directory, as well as dependent branch stacks that can be merged in a chosen order. Commit tools can create, modify, squash, split, reorder, and undo commits. GitButler records project-state snapshots that users can use to revert major operations. Its AI commit-message and branch-name generation can use OpenAI, Anthropic, Ollama, or LM Studio. Integrations with GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket support pull requests and branch workflows; GitHub Enterprise connections use an API URL and personal access token. Commits can be automatically signed with GPG or SSH keys. GitButler runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Its standalone client is free, and the project is described as Fair Source, becoming MIT after two years. The free plan costs nothing. A Supporter plan costs $5 a month, billed monthly, and includes early-bird Discord access and supporter perks.
