GameShift
What it is
GameShift is free Windows software that detects when supported games start and applies per-title system settings, then records and restores the original values when the session ends. It can scan Steam, Epic Games, GOG Galaxy, and Xbox/Game Pass directories, using a database containing more than 80 game executables. The project lists 19 built-in profiles with hardware tuning and anti-cheat metadata, plus controls for individual games. Available adjustments cover process priority, services and tasks, memory, timer resolution, power plans, CPU scheduling, network behavior, and GPU driver settings. Monitoring includes CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM, network, temperatures, DPC latency, session history, driver advisories, and frame-time benchmarking. GameShift says it makes no network calls beyond GitHub update checks, collects no telemetry, and stores data locally. Administrator rights are required. Automatic crash or blue-screen recovery is still in development.
For and against
For
- Free plan with no paid plans listed
- Detects games across four PC game sources
- Nineteen built-in profiles and per-game controls
- Records and verifies reversible system changes
- Includes broad hardware and latency telemetry
Against
- Windows only
- Administrator privileges are required
- Crash and blue-screen recovery is not enabled
- No cloud profile sync
The verdict
GameShift combines game detection, configurable system adjustments, and detailed session telemetry in a free Windows utility. Its main limitation is that automatic recovery after crashes remains unavailable, so interrupted sessions may need attention.
Who it suits
It suits Windows 10 or 11 x64 players who want per-game system tuning and session monitoring. It is also relevant to users who prefer local storage and a free, MIT-licensed project.
