What it is
Forest is a focus timer that grows a virtual tree while a focus session runs; the tree dies if the user leaves or breaks the session. Deep Focus, available on the free tier, can block or redirect attempts to open other apps during a session. Time Guard schedules recurring app or site blocks, with Free limited to one and Plus supporting multiple. Plant Together synchronizes sessions among friends, and the group’s trees die if anyone gives up. Mindful Space offers guided breathing and soundscapes, while Focus Analytics reports focus patterns and hours by day, week, or month. Plus adds analytics and custom tags. The timer, tree growth, and local focus data work offline, but group focus, challenges, the shop, seasonal events, and real-tree planting need internet. Forest says focus-earned coins can fund real trees through its Trees for the Future partnership, up to five per account on eligible plans. It is available on iPhone, iPad, Android, and as a Chrome or Firefox extension, with account and focus history syncing across platforms. Forest describes the app as a behavioral tool, not medical treatment for ADHD.
