FinanzOnline · Vienna, Austria · founded 2003
What it is
FinanzOnline is Austria’s free online portal for tax and financial administration with the tax authority. Individuals can use ID Austria without a separate initial FinanzOnline registration. The service accepts electronic employee tax assessments, annual returns, declarations, and applications, and provides procedures for businesses, municipalities, tax professionals, banks, and insurers. ID Austria is the standard sign-in and fulfills the legal two-factor requirement; alternative credentials also require two-factor authentication. Listed alternatives include a signature card, FIDO security key, and EU Login. Access uses TLS encryption and requires cookies and JavaScript, with supported browser versions published. Data-stream submissions need separate software that creates XML files matching Ministry structures; FinanzOnline does not provide that software. Submissions receive an immediate formal check and a later content check, recorded in the submission log. The Ministry recommends packages below 5 MB and no more than 50 declarations. Web, Android, iOS, and API platforms are listed.
