FaultMesh
What it is
FaultMesh is a Kubernetes-native platform for injecting controlled failures and evaluating system resilience. It supports latency, packet loss, pod kills, CPU stress, and memory stress through Chaos Mesh CRDs. Real-time metric analysis can surface regressions, while rules and actions can trigger automatic remediation. The platform scores services across six dimensions and assigns L1–L5 maturity levels. It also tracks SLO error budgets and supports multi-step chaos game days with validation between steps. Safety controls include blast-radius limits, dry runs, an error-budget gate, a background monitor, and an instant kill switch. Teams can use managed SaaS or deploy a Kubernetes Operator in their own cluster, keeping data inside their perimeter. Access controls include JWT and API-key authentication and Admin, Operator, and Viewer roles. FaultMesh lists a free Starter plan for up to three services; Growth costs $49 a month, billed per host. A 14-day trial is available.
For and against
For
- Supports five listed fault types.
- Scores services across six dimensions.
- Includes SLO and error-budget tracking.
- Offers managed SaaS and an in-cluster Operator.
Against
- Starter is limited to three services.
- Growth is billed per host.
The verdict
FaultMesh combines failure injection, resilience scoring, and automated remediation with safety controls and deployment choices. Teams should weigh its per-host Growth billing and Starter service limit against their testing needs.
Who it suits
Starter is described for small teams beginning chaos engineering, while Growth is for teams making it routine. Enterprise is aimed at organizations running FaultMesh inside their own perimeter.
