Epic
San Jose, California
What it is
Epic is a digital reading platform for children 12 and under, with more than 40,000 books, audiobooks, and learning videos from over 250 publishers. Its library includes illustrated and chapter books, Read-to-Me titles, graphic novels, decodables, educational videos, and quizzes. Epic says the service is ad-free and content is curated by experts; parent controls help guide a child's reading experience. Teachers can assign and share books, track daily and weekly reading, filter titles by reading level or grade, use quizzes and dictionary lookup, and create collections. Epic runs on the web, iOS, and Android. Mobile support requires iOS 17 or higher or Android 7.0 or higher; Kindle and Fire tablets are not compatible. Books can be downloaded for offline reading on iOS and Android, but each download remains accessible only on the device where it was saved. Epic School offers classroom access on weekdays from 7am to 4pm. Family plans include 24/7 access and cost $7.25 per year when billed annually or $13.99 per month. A seven-day trial is listed. Epic says some titles may be unavailable outside the United States because of regional publisher restrictions.
