DOSBox-X

What it is

DOSBox-X is a free, open-source emulator for running DOS applications and games on Linux, macOS, and Windows. It officially supports DOS-based Windows guests such as Windows 3.x and Windows 9x/Me. The project emphasizes general emulation and hardware-behavior reproduction, including DOS/V services and NEC PC-98, AX, and J-3100 systems. A graphical configuration tool and many virtual-machine options let users customize the environment. DOSBox-X offers up to 100 save slots and can save automatically for selected programs or at chosen intervals. Its emulated NE2000 adapter provides guest networking through PCAP and Slirp backends. Parallel-port printing supports real or emulated printers, including PostScript or PNG output, and can work with Printfil or WinPrint on Windows hosts. Launching host applications is disabled by default for security and can be enabled through configuration or a command-line option. Documentation is available in a wiki, with an issue tracker for questions and suggestions. Pentium 4 or newer hardware emulation is listed as a non-goal.
