Dataphos Schema Registry
What it is
Dataphos Schema Registry is an open-source service for managing schemas in streaming data infrastructure. It keeps a versioned history and offers a REST API for registering schemas, updating versions, retrieving or deleting them, and checking validity or compatibility. Validators support JSON, Avro, Protocol Buffers, XML, and CSV messages. They can connect with GCP Pub/Sub, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hubs, Apache Kafka, Apache Pulsar, and NATS JetStream, including producers and consumers using different protocols. Validation results route messages to a valid topic or a dead-letter topic. Compatibility options include backward, forward, and full modes with transitive variants; BACKWARD is the default. Validity modes are FULL, NONE, and SYNTAX_ONLY, with FULL as the default. The registry and validators run as Kubernetes deployments, with Shell, Helm, and Pulumi deployment options. The Shell quickstart calls for at least 8 GB of available RAM on cluster nodes. Prometheus is listed as an optional monitoring resource.
For and against

- Versioned schema history
- Supports five message formats
- Dead-letter routing for invalid messages
- Multiple Kubernetes deployment options
Against
- Requires Kubernetes deployment
- Quickstart calls for 8 GB RAM
- Prometheus monitoring is optional
The verdict
Dataphos Schema Registry combines schema lifecycle operations with in-flight validation across several formats and brokers. Its self-hosted Kubernetes setup fits teams that can provide the required infrastructure.
Who it suits
